Case Study: Deep-Buttoned Banquette Seating

We worked with bespoke joinery company Hafferty Joinery on this project.

It was actually a client of Hafferty Joinery who wanted to build some banquette seating in their dining room.  Banquette seating is such a lovely way of providing additional seating in your home, creating a statement piece of fixed furniture and an opportunity to sneak in that all-important storage.

Hafferty built the seating in their workshop, the quality of their work is impeccable, the seating had soft close draws at the base to allow for that all-important storage and was given a beautifully sprayed finish.  We worked with Hafferty on the build, allowances for fabrics and foams were discussed before the panels for upholstery were cut and the base of the seating built.

We brought the panels back to our Worsley workshop and got to work.  Lots of maths go into deep buttoning, it’s important that the panels are all symmetrical to give a unison finish.  We set to work marking out the buttons, drilling holes in the wood and foam, marking out the fabric for buttoning and making those all-important buttons.

For the seats themselves, we used a comfortable chunky foam that was deigned with a harder compressed foam at the base which will hold its shape over time, with a softer foam for comfort on top.  The upholstery design was a sewn top with a border and neat top stitch finish.  The client chose Warick Fabric Plush velvet which was perfect for buttoning and a dream to work with as the finish was just wonderful.

Happy Client, happy Hafferty Joinery, happy Upholstery Lady.
