Case Study: Amy Newton Interiors and The Upholstery Lady

Amy has been involving me in her projects for quite a few years now, we have a great working relationship and I very much enjoy working with her on all the amazing projects she gets me on board with.

I must say though, the collaboration which I remember with great fondness was our first project together.  Amy was working on a house in Bowden, Cheshire and both her and her client were keen to keep existing chairs and opted for reimagining and reupholstering.  There were 3 chairs a large existing sofa which required lots and lots of complementing cushions and a large bespoke footstool/ coffee table centre piece which we needed to build and create.

The chairs were beautifully shaped and in good condition.  Amy and her client discussed fabrics; the brief for the room was to be classically fun with plenty of pop out colours.  Prestigious Textiles Marilyn in Tutti Frutti was the fabric of choice for the first chair and for the two matching chairs Harliquin Irradiant in Gold.  I took the chairs back to the workshop, stripped them back to frame and built them back up using new foam and inners.  Both chairs look fabulous with their new covers.

Whilst I was upholstering the chairs, our frame maker was working on the frame for the centre piece footstool.  The brief Amy had given to us included a drawing with all the dimensions, so we knew exactly how it needed to be built in order to achieve the look.  The outer section of the coffee table was to be designed as a place of comfort to rest your feet, and for the centre we made an Egger tray with hardened glass top to act as a display cabinet and a place to put flowers, books, and brews etc.  The fabric of chose was a bold pink which we also picked out for the cushions on the sofa.

This was a fabulous project, both Amy and the client were delighted with the end result.  Happy client, happy Interior Designer, happy Upholsterer.
