Case Study: Laura’s Bed Build
We have built many beds and headboards over the years, but this beautiful bed must be my favourite.
My client Laura came to me with a very clear idea of what she wanted and provided images of a bed that she’d found online but couldn’t find it to buy, which is when Laura knew she needed a bespoke build solution. We discussed at length the dimensions of the bed – these dimensions included, the finished height of the bed including the mattress, depth of the side panels, overall height of the headboard and end panel, height above the floor to allow for vacuuming underneath and finally the slight gap around the mattress that gives you enough room to tuck your sheets in nicely.
Collaborating, we went away and worked with a bespoke joinery company to have the bed built. The bed was made in solid oak and sprayed in matt black to finish. The grain of the oak was visible through the black, resulting in a solid high-end look. The panels for upholstery were worked on in my workshop, the upholstery was designed to slot into the grooves of the bed and headboard. The fabric of choice was Linwood Omega in Chalk.
The headboard was a separate piece and we attached and built the side and end panels into place on site. We were thankful for the high bulkheads in the hallway and stairs in this Victorian semi as the headboard was almost 7ft high.
Now onto time to assemble! We assembled the bed and slotted the upholstery into place and stood back to look at our work and thought…… WOW!
We worked on cushions for the bed, again using Linwood fabric in chalk with black velvet piping, and my client Laura had bought some chairs from Dunelm that we upholstered in the Chalk fabric with black piping and black studs, they came up gorgeously.
The overall look of this bedroom is high-end luxury, a place of tranquillity. The vision Laura had for her bedroom was achieved and surpassed. We were honoured to help Laura’s vision come to life.
