Case Study: Aldi ‘ Kevin the Carrot’ Christmas TV Advertising Campaign

A real highlight of 2023 for me, was to be commissioned to create two large deep buttoned panels to appear within the set of the Aldi Christmas 2023 TV advert.  First of all… WOW, what an opportunity!

I jumped at the chance to collaborate with the international creative and marketing agency McCann on Aldi’s Christmas campaign. The deadlines were tight, but achievable with a few late nights.  Working with McCann’s set team sent through an image of the set with dimensions of the panels, and I set to work. 

We cut the plywood to size, marked out the grid for the buttons, drilled the holes to thread the buttons through and set to work on the upholstery.  I find the deep buttoning process so therapeutic; I enjoyed working on these pieces, working with Christmas red vinyl was something a little different, especially in September. 

The panels were pretty straightforward to upholster, and I was really happy with the way that they turned out.  McCanns came to collect the panels and the next time I saw them was on the TV with Kevin the Carrot. 

What a moment this was for me, I felt so proud to see my work on such an iconic and long-awaited Christmas TV advert.  I hope to continue to produce great work, and if I work hard, I hope that more opportunities like this will come my way.
